About Charlie Ebbers

I generally work on stories that relate to wildlife and wild lands. I've reported and published investigative and enterprising pieces as well as gear reviews, book reviews and interviews. I have worked for Outside magazine, Bugle magazine, the Whitefish Review, the Montana Kaimin, and the Blue Mesa Review. I have been published in these (except BMR) and other publications.

I like to work as a team with editors, and I enjoy editing my colleagues stories. I have done intensive fact-checking for Outside, and would like to continue to.

My site also shows the trail work I've worked on for the National Park Service. I was the lead on some of the projects shown. I like to build with my hands and work with materials I have to quarry.

Glassing for bighorns in Glacier National Park

I am a journalist who works on stories that relate to the people who govern and use our wildlife and wild lands. I've reported investigative stories, enterprising pieces, gear reviews, book reviews, interviews and narrated a documentary.

My writing has been for local, regional, and national publications. NPR's HumaNature podcast published a grizzly bear survival story that happened one strange summer day. I like to work as part of a team and I enjoy editing my colleagues stories. I have done extensive fact-checking.

I am also a trail crew leader, and a few photos from that work are on this site.

From the Field” is a blog. I’m working on a book about the conservation history of Montana’s Rocky Mountain Front, and am a writer/editor for hire.
